After forty years in the parish ministry it was time to hang it up and enjoy the fruits of “old age”. Being a parish pastor in North Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota was great but there comes a day when you find younger Pastors can better relate to the current generation and it is time to look for other things to do. So retirement took us on a journey eastward (from Chanhassen to Edina). It was time to relax and sit in the pew with my lovely wife, Berniece and listen to a great preacher. Pastor Shockey and the members of St. Peter’s were gracious enough to welcome us into their midst.
It wasn’t long and I volunteered to sing in the choir. Then we were asked to facilitate the “small group” ministry of St. Peter’s. I did some preaching for area pastors, taught a few Bible classes and enjoyed some golf and as much biking as I could. After a couple of years along came Pastor Shockey with the request to be “Visitation Pastor” at St. Peter’s. Thus I have been given the opportunity to work along side of him making calls upon the sick and shut in, doing preaching for him when he is gone or during a busy season and generally helping out where I can. The Lord is good! |
