Easter - The Mystery

Welcome!

Most of us realize that we aren't perfect. We want to clean ourselves up into a more likable, desirable person who will have a greater impact on the world around us. And that is where Jesus comes in, right? His teaching will help each of us live a better life. At least that is what many believe.

That is why Easter is a mystery. And today you have the opportunity to discover the mystery with us.

Christ Lives in Me

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

(Galatians 2:20)

Christ and Christ Crucified

The wages of my sin was death
You knew I couldn't pay the debt
You paid it with your final breath
Hallelujah hallelujah
You took the wrath that I deserved
Your holy blood broke every curse
Your mercy had the final word
Hallelujah hallelujah

We sing Christ and Christ crucified
In You we're raised from death to life
We sing Christ and Christ crucified
Hallelujah hallelujah

No sin is bigger than Your blood
No shame is stronger than Your love
You said it's finished it is done
Hallelujah hallelujah
Death couldn't keep You in the ground
You rose in power and took hell down
That power's living in us now
Hallelujah hallelujah

We sing Christ and Christ crucified
In You we're raised from death to life
We sing Christ and Christ crucified
Hallelujah hallelujah
We sing Christ and Christ crucified
In You we're raised from death to life
We sing Christ and Christ crucified
Hallelujah hallelujah

Death couldn't hold You down
Hell couldn't steal Your crown
There's resurrection power
In Your Name in Your Name
Let all the earth cry out
Lift up a holy sound
Give all the glory now
To Jesus' Name Jesus' Name
Death couldn't hold You down
Hell couldn't steal Your crown
There's resurrection power
In Your Name in Your Name
Let all the earth cry out
Lift up a holy sound
Give all the glory now
To Jesus' Name Jesus' Name

We sing Christ and Christ crucified
In You we're raised from death to life
We sing Christ and Christ crucified
Hallelujah hallelujah

Greeting

Pastor:  He is risen
All: He is risen indeed

Pastor: Christ is risen
All: He is risen indeed Alleluia!

Resurrection Scripture - Part 1

1 Corinthians 15:1-6 (TLB)

Now let me remind you, brothers and sisters, of what the Gospel really is, for it has not changed—it is the same Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then and still do now, for your faith is squarely built upon this wonderful message; and it is this Good News that saves you if you still firmly believe it, unless of course you never really believed it in the first place.

I passed on to you right from the first what had been told to me, that Christ died for our sins just as the Scriptures said he would, and that he was buried, and that three days afterwards he arose from the grave just as the prophets foretold. He was seen by Peter and later by the rest of “the Twelve.” After that he was seen by more than five hundred Christian brothers and sisters at the same.

Now All the Vault of Heaven Resounds

Now all the vault of Heaven resounds
In praise of love that still abounds
Christ has triumphed
He is living
Sing choirs of angels loud and clear
Repeat their song of glory here
Christ has triumphed
Christ has triumphed
Alleluia alleluia alleluia

Eternal is the gift He brings
Therefore our heart with rapture sings
Christ has triumphed
He is living
Now still He comes to give us life
And by His presence stills all strife
Christ has triumphed
He is living
Alleluia alleluia alleluia

Adoring praises now we bring
And with the heavenly blessed sing
Christ has triumphed
Alleluia
Be to the Father and our Lord
To Spirit blest most Holy God
All the glory never ending
Alleluia alleluia alleluia

Resurrection Scripture - Part 2

1 Corinthians 15:12-20 (TLB)

But tell me this! Since you believe what we preach, that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying that dead people will never come back to life again? For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ must still be dead. And if he is still dead, then all our preaching is useless and your trust in God is empty, worthless, hopeless; and we apostles are all liars because we have said that God raised Christ from the grave, and of course that isn’t true if the dead do not come back to life again. If they don’t, then Christ is still dead, and you are very foolish to keep on trusting God to save you, and you are still under condemnation for your sins; in that case, all Christians who have died are lost! And if being a Christian is of value to us only now in this life, we are the most miserable of creatures. But the fact is that Christ did actually rise from the dead and has become the first of millions who will come back to life again someday.

I Know That My Redeemer Lives

I know that my Redeemer lives
What comfort this sweet sentence gives
He lives He lives who once was dead
He lives my everliving head

He lives triumphant from the grave
He lives eternally to save
He lives exalted throned above
He lives to rule His church in love

He lives my kind wise Heav'nly friend
He lives and loves me to the end
He lives and while He lives I'll sing
He lives my prophet priest and King

He lives all glory to His name
He lives my Savior still the same
What joy this blest assurance gives
I know that my Redeemer lives

Resurrection Prayer

Pastor:  Jesus Christ, you are the Resurrection and the Life! You have gone before us, overcoming death and opening the gate of everlasting life to all who place their trust in You.

All: Help us grasp the mystery of your death and resurrection that we may be filled with joy, for You live triumphant from the grave, now and forevermore. Amen.

Message

“More of You God

John 11:25 - “I am the resurrection and the life.”

John 20:1-2 - Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

John 20:19-20 - On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Death Was Arrested

Alone in my sorrow and dead in my sin
Lost without hope with no place to begin
Your love made a way to let mercy come in
When death was arrested and my life began

Ash was redeemed only beauty remains
My orphan heart was given a name
My mourning grew quiet my feet rose to dance
When death was arrested and my life began

Oh Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You
It's Your endless love
Pouring down on us
You have made us new
Now life begins with You

Released from my chains I'm a prisoner no more
My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore
He canceled my debt and He called me His friend
When death was arrested and my life began

Oh Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You
It's Your endless love
Pouring down on us
You have made us new
Now life begins with You

Our Savior displayed on a criminal's cross
Darkness rejoiced as though Heaven had lost
But then Jesus arose with our freedom in hand
That's when death was arrested and my life began

Oh Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You

Oh we're free free forever we're free
Come join the song of all the redeemed
Yes we're free free forever amen
When death was arrested and my life began
When death was arrested and my life began
When death was arrested and my life began

Announcements

The Easter Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, who sent His Son as my Savior.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, died on Good Friday, rose again on Easter morning to free me from the curse of sin, the sting of death, and the power of the devil.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, who has brought me to faith in the Christ of Easter; and by whose continuous work in my heart, I am ever led to be steadfast and unmovable, always abounding in the work of my Resurrected Lord.  Amen

Blessing

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Living Hope

How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation I turned to heaven
And spoke Your name into the night
Then through the darkness Your loving-kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished the end is written
Jesus Christ my living hope

Who could imagine so great a mercy
What heart could fathom such boundless grace
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken I am forgiven
The King of kings calls me His own
Beautiful Savior I’m Yours forever
Jesus Christ my living hope

Hallelujah
Praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah
Death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ my living hope
Hallelujah
Praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah
Death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ my living hope

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus Yours is the victory

Hallelujah
Praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah
Death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ my living hope
Hallelujah
Praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah
Death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ my living hope
Jesus Christ my living hope
Oh God You are my living hope
