Greeting & Announcements

Invocation

Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Pastor: Our Lord Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd, I know My own and my own know Me, just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

All:  And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice. So there will be one flock, one Shepherd.”    (John 10:14–16)

Pastor: O God, whose Son, Jesus, is the Good Shepherd of Your people, grant that when we hear His voice we may know Him who calls us each by name and follow where He leads; who, with You and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever. Amen

Fierce

Before I call
Before I ever cry
You answer me
From where the thunder hides
I can't outrun
This heart I'm tethered to
With every step
I collide with You

Like a tidal wave
Crashing over me
Rushing in to meet me here
Your love is fierce
Like a hurricane
That I can't escape
Tearing through the atmosphere
Your love is fierce

You cannot fail
The only thing I've found
Is through it all
You never let me down
You don't hold back
Relentless in pursuit
At every turn
I come face to face with You

Like a tidal wave
Crashing over me
Rushing in to meet me here
Your love is fierce
Like a hurricane
That I can't escape
Tearing through the atmosphere
Your love is fierce

You chase me down
You seek me out
How could I be lost when
You have called me found
You chase me down
You seek me out
How could I be lost when
You have called me found
You chase me down
You seek me out
How could I be lost when
You have called me found

Like a tidal wave
Crashing over me
Rushing in to meet me here
Your love is fierce
Like a hurricane
That I can't escape
Tearing through the atmosphere
His love is fierce

Your love is fierce
Your love is fierce
Your love is fierce
His love is fierce

Scripture Reading

John 10:23-30- And Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: I Am The Good Shepherd

Isaiah 40:11 - He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

John 10:11-13 - “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.”

John 10:14-18 - “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father —and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life —only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 10:27-28 - “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

Psalm 23:1 - The LORD is my shepherd

They hear His voice, they are known by Him, they follow Him, and they are secure.

John 10:29-30 - “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

The Lords My Shepherd Leading Me

The Lords my shepherd leading me
To pastures newly green
Deep flow the waters of His care
His mercies unforeseen
He loves me so He leads me to
His pastures gently green

My hungry soul He fills again
With manna from above
He sets my footsteps right again
in pathways of His love
For His names sake He nurtures me
With manna from above

Even within the vale of death
I feel no threatening chill
His rod and staff protecting me
His love beside me still
His guardian love protecting me
I fear no threat of ill

How He confounds my enemies
By richly blessing me
His cup of promise overflows
With generosity
Anointing me His chosen one
He richly blesses me

I take my stand forevermore
Within my Shepherds fold
Secure in His forgiving love
How gently strong His hold
He loves me so He leads me to
His blessings rich and bold

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: “All we, like sheep, have gone astray; we have turned–everyone–to his own way; and the Lord has laid on our Savior Jesus the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)

Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

All: Lord, we truly have wandered away from our Shepherd like lost sheep. We have sinned in what we have done and in what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

Pastor: Yet God sent His Son Jesus to be our Savior.Since Jesus is also God Himself in human flesh and blood, He has become our true Shepherd, going out to find us when we were lost and then bringing us home rejoicing.

All: Good Shepherd, forgive our sins and let us rejoice every day that You found us when we were lost.

Pastor: In the mercy of Almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

John 10:28 - “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

Reckless Love

Before I spoke a word You were singing over me
You have been so so good to me
Before I took a breath You breathed Your life in me
You have been so so kind to me

Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
Oh it chases me down fights 'til I'm found
Leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God

When I was Your foe still Your love fought for me
You have been so so good to me
When I felt no worth You paid it all for me
You have been so so kind to me

Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
Oh it chases me down fights 'til I'm found
Leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God

There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me
There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me
There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me
There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me

Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
Oh it chases me down fights 'til I'm found
Leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
