Proverbs - A Wise Man

Welcome!

A wise man in the Bible often refers to an individual who possesses not only knowledge and understanding but also the ability to apply this knowledge to life. Today we give thanks to God for the fathers who have impacted our lives. We pray they continually seek the guidance and direction of Biblical wisdom.

Greeting & Announcements

Thanksgiving for Fathers

Pastor: My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck.

All: When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. (Proverbs 6:20–22)

Pastor: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

All: and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. (Proverbs 9:10)

A Prayer for Fathers

Pastor: Lord, may fathers ever be sources of strength and encouragement to their families. Grant them wisdom to support their families in times of trouble when every day is challenging and the demands are burdensome. Guide us in our homes that we may truly be families of faith where love is demonstrated at all times. May our earthly fathers know and reflect the goodness of our Heavenly Father. Amen.

Good Good Father

I've heard a thousand stories
Of what they think You’re like
But I've heard the tender whisper
Of love in the dead of night
You tell me that You’re pleased
And that I'm never alone

You're a Good Good Father
It's who You are
It's who You are
It's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am
It's who I am
It's who I am

I've seen many searching for answers
Far and wide
But I know
We're all searching for answers
Only You provide
'Cause You know just what we need
Before we say a word

You're a Good Good Father
It's who You are
It's who You are
It's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am
It's who I am
It's who I am

You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

Love so undeniable
I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable
I can hardly think
As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still
Into love love love

You're a Good Good Father
It's who You are
It's who You are
It's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am
It's who I am
It's who I am
You're a Good Good Father
It's who You are
It's who You are
It's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am
It's who I am
It's who I am

You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways

Scripture Reading

Proverbs 16:1-9 (NIV) - To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue. All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The LORD works out everything to its proper end  even the wicked for a day of disaster. The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished. Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided. When the LORD takes pleasure in anyone's way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them. Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice. In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Message

Proverbs 1:7-9 (TLB) - How does a man become wise? The first step is to trust and reverence the Lord! Only fools refuse to be taught. Listen to your father and mother. What you learn from them will stand you in good stead; it will gain you many honors.

Proverbs 10:1 (NIV) - A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.

Proverbs 20:7 (NIV) - The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them.

Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) - Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Proverbs 7:1-3 (NIV) - My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

Father’s Day Video

Let Children Hear the Mighty Deeds

Let children hear the mighty deeds
Which God performed of old
Which in our younger years we saw
And which our fathers told

So make to them His glories known
His works of power and grace
And we'll convey His wonders down
Through every rising race

Our lips shall tell them to our sons
And they again to theirs
That generations yet unborn
May teach them to their heirs

Oh teach them with all diligence
The truths of Gods own Word
To place in Him their confidence
To fear and trust their Lord

To learn that in our God alone
Their hope securely stands
That they may never doubt His love
But walk in His commands

The Apostles Creed

All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate. Was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,  the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Proverbs 4:1-4 (NIV) - Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother. Then he taught me, and he said to me, "Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.

King of My Heart

Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh He is my song

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

Let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh He is my song

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
