What to Expect

Greeting & Announcements

Christmas brings family together. More than any other time of year, many have a desire to "come home.” It is not just a family tradition - it is an opportunity to "show up" ready to join Jesus on His mission by participating in simple opportunities to show love and carry one another's burdens.

A Christmas Prayer for Joining Jesus as a Family

Alabaster Heart

So here it is my alabaster heart
I’m keeping nothing back from who You are
No hidden treasure veiled by key or lock
You’re a lifetime worth of worship
And that’s only just the start

Here it is my every waking day
The minutes hours the years of endless praise
For You’re worthy far beyond all I could say
There’s a lifetime worth of worship
In the nuance of Your names

So let it rise like incense
My whole life a fragrance
Every ounce here broken at Your feet
Every breath an offering
My heart cries
These lungs sing over You
My worthy King of Kings

There it is Your alabaster cross
Giving all You are for all I’m not
I can’t believe that’s the kind of King You are
How could I not bring a lifetime
Worth of worship to You God

So let it rise like incense
My whole life a fragrance
Every ounce here broken at Your feet
Every breath an offering
My heart cries
These lungs sing over You
My worthy King of Kings

All my love
All my love
All my love
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

All my love
All my love
All my love
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

All my love
All my love
All my love
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

All my heart and
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all

You can have it all
You can have it all
You can have it all
You can have it all

Scripture Reading

Matthew 1:18-25 (NIV) - This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

This Week's Family Resources

Message

Matthew 2:1-2 (TLB) - Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem, in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. At about that time some astrologers from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in far-off eastern lands and have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:9-11 (TLB) - After this interview the astrologers started out again. And look! The star appeared to them again, standing over Bethlehem. Their joy knew no bounds! Entering the house where the baby and Mary, his mother, were, they threw themselves down before him, worshiping.

“Thank you for faithfully leading, serving, and stewarding the resources God has placed in your care. Your leadership creates space for lives to be transformed and the Gospel to be shared—this season and all year long.”

“Thank You for Preaching the Gospel and for your Service. Praying that we grow deeper in the Love of God this Christmas. ‘For unto us a Child is Born, a Son is Given…’”

“Who was the most generous person who ever lived?”
“In my mind, that makes Jesus the most generous person who ever lived.”

Matthew 2:10-11 (TLB) - Their joy knew no bounds!  Entering the house where the baby and Mary, his mother, were, they threw themselves down before him, worshiping. Then they opened their presents and gave him gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Prayers

Submit Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Romans 12:13 (NLT) - When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.

How Great Is Our God

The splendor of the King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
And trembles at His voice

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

And age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the End
Beginning and the End
The Godhead three in one
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God
