Greeting & Announcements

Here is the secret to finding forgiveness: forgive, as the Lord forgave you. You have been wronged and hurt by others. Jesus invites you to find forgiveness because you are also in need of forgiveness and likewise deserve punishment. Christ gives freedom. Learn more by reading Colossians 3 in the Bible.

Finding Forgiveness

Pastor: God is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins. (Ephesians 1:7 (NLT))

All: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  (1 John 1:9 (NIV))

Pastor: He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:10-13 (NIV))

All: Happy are those whose sins are forgiven, whose wrongs are pardoned. (Psalm 32:1 (GNT))

O Come to the Altar

Are you hurting and broken within
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there's no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood

Oh what a Savior
Isn't he wonderful
Sing alleluia Christ is risen
Bow down before him
For he is Lord of all
Sing alleluia Christ is risen

O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Bear your cross as you wait for the crown
Tell the world of the treasure you've found

Scripture Reading

Colossians 1:9-14 (NIV) - For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message

Luke 23:41-43 (NLT) - We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn't done anything wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom." And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise."

Chief of Sinners Though I Be

Chief of sinners though I be
Jesus shed His blood for me
Died that I might live on high
Lives that I might never die
As the branch is to the vine
I am His and He is mine

Oh the height of Jesus love
Higher than the heavens above
Deeper than the depths of sea
Lasting as eternity
Love that found me Wondrous thought
Found me when I sought Him not

Confession and Forgiveness

All: Soften my heart, Lord, and help me forgive as You have forgiven me. If anyone can mend my broken relationships, Jesus, it is You.
Guide my every word and every action with Your perfect love. I need You, Jesus. We need You.

Chief of Sinners Though I Be (continued)

Only Jesus can impart
Balm to heal the wounded heart
Peace that flows from sin forgiven
Joy that lifts the soul to heaven
Faith and hope to walk with God
In the way that Encoch trod

Chief of sinners though I be
Christ is all in all to me
All my wants to Him are known
All my sorrows are His own
He sustains the hidden life
Safe with Him from earthly strife

Words of Institution

Chief of Sinners Though I Be (continued)

O my Savior help afford
By your Spirit and your Word
When my wayward heart would stray
Keep me in the narrow way
Grace in time of need supply
While I live and when I die

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.  For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Romans 5:8 (NIV) - But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Lead Me To The Cross

Savior I come quiet my soul
Remember redemption's hill
Where Your blood was spilled
For my ransom
Everything I once held dear
I count it all as loss

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh lead me
Lead me to the cross

You were as I
Tempted and tried human
The word became flesh
Bore my sin in death
Now You're risen
Everything I once held dear
I count it all as loss

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh lead me
Lead me to the cross

To Your heart
To Your heart
Lead me to Your heart
Lead me to Your heart

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh lead me
Lead me to the cross
