The Weekly Prayer Project - Impossible Prayers

Welcome!

Impossible Prayers are the prayers we pray when the obstacle is too big, too heavy, too permanent for human strength. Only God can do anything - it is impossible for us. Jesus encouraged His followers and assured them prayer moves mountains.

Greeting and Announcements

Impossible Prayers

Pastor: Lord we believe nothing is too hard for You.
All: Jesus said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”  (Luke 18:27)

Pastor: Lord, we can not see the outcome, but in impossible situations we stand on the promise:
All: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him." (Romans 8:28)

Pastor: So today, we bring our impossible prayers before You God, confident we can say to the mountain that is in front of us,
All: "‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible.” (Matthew 17:20)

Pastor: The God who has never failed us is the same God who stands with us now.
All: "I will praise You, Lord my God, with all my heart; and I will glorify Your name forever." (Psalm 86:12)

Yes I Will

I count on one thing
The same God that never fails
Will not fail me now
You won't fail me now
In the waiting
The same God who's never late
Is working all things out
You're working all things out

Yes I will lift You high
In the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name
Yes I will sing for joy
When my heart is heavy
All my days yes I will

I count on one thing
The same God that never fails
Will not fail me now
You won't fail me now
In the waiting
The same God who's never late
Is working all things out
You're working all things out

Yes I will lift You high
In the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name
Yes I will sing for joy
When my heart is heavy
All my days yes I will
For all my days yes I will

I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against
I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against
I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against
I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against

Yes I will lift You high
In the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name
Yes I will sing for joy
When my heart is heavy
All my days yes I will
For all my days yes I will
For all my days yes I will

Scripture Reading

Mark 11:22-25 (NIV) - “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Apostles Creed

All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message

Mark 11:23-24 (NKJV) - For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

Is this situation bigger than God, or is God bigger than this situation?

Luke 1:37 (NKJV) - “For with God nothing will be impossible.”

“God, it is impossible!”

Matthew 19:26 - “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Jeremiah 32:27 - “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”
Exodus 14:14 - “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Isaiah 41:10 - “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”
Psalm 121:1-2 - “Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.”

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: Merciful God, You are the One who does greater things than we can see or imagine. We confess that our faith is small, our trust is fragile, and our prayers often stop at what seems possible.

All: Forgive us for relying on our own strength.
Forgive us for doubts that shrink our prayers.
Forgive us for forgetting Your past faithfulness in impossible situations.

Pastor: Hear the good news: in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit—you are forgiven. The God who does the impossible renews your faith, restores your hope, and strengthens your spirit.

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team. Speak with Pastor Mark if you desire personal prayer.

Words of Institution / Communion Distribution

Just before Jesus was crucified, He instituted the Lord’s Supper with His disciples. After the Resurrection, believers still gather today to receive the bread and wine.

Holy Communion is offered to those who have been instructed in the Christian faith as confessed by the Lutheran Church. We believe that:

1) Jesus Christ is our only Lord and Savior from all sin, death, and the power of the devil;
2) the Risen Christ is really present in the Sacrament and that with the bread and wine we receive is His true Body and Blood; and
3) we resolve to dedicate our lives to the service of our Lord in His Body, the Church, by regular group worship, sacrificial giving, and thankful living.

If you have any questions please consult with the pastor.

Approach the altar on your own. Gluten-free hosts are available by requesting one from the communion server. Grape juice is located in the center ring of cups.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Luke 1:37 (ESV) - “For Nothing will be impossible with God.”

See A Victory

The weapon may be formed but it won't prosper
When the darkness falls it won't prevail
'Cause the God I serve knows only how to triumph
My God will never fail
My God will never fail

I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord

There's power in the mighty Name of Jesus
Every war He wages He will win
I'm not backing down from any giant
I know how this story ends
I know how this story ends

I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord

You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for goodYou take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good

I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
