Are you prepared for what will happen with the family gathers together? Holidays can be stressful around the table. Since dinner together is important, let's learn some practical steps you can take as you join Jesus as a family this year.

Give Thanks to the Lord

Psalm 136:1–3

Pastor: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
All: for His steadfast love endures forever.

Pastor: God defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me.
All: For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him.

Pastor: We have not done our duty.
We have not thanked Him as He deserves.
We have not praised Him as He deserves.
We have not served Him as He deserves.
We have not obeyed Him as He deserves.
People: We have taken His gifts for granted. All too often we have forgotten the One who gave those gifts. We have sinned. We pray: Be merciful to us, sinners.

Pastor: Jesus has redeemed us, lost and condemned people, purchased and won us from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death.

Scripture Reading

Luke 21:7-19 (NIV) - “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?”

He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”

Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. And so you will bear testimony to me. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.


STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Our Creator and Provider

The First Article of the Creed

Pastor: We give thanks together.
All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

Pastor: What does this mean?
All: I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them.

Pastor: He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have.
All: He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life.

Pastor: He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil.
All: All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him.

Pastor: This is most certainly true.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.  For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)


The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
