What to Expect

Greeting & Announcements

According to the Bible, God's essence is love; God's motivation is love; God's gift is love; God's expectation of us is to freely receive and freely give love. Joining Jesus as a family means a home filled with love!

This Week's Announcements

What does the Bible say about love?

Pastor: Here's what the Bible says about love:

All: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believe in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (John 3:16)

Pastor: Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'"  (Matthew 22:37-39)

All: Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.  (Romans 13:10)

Pastor: Jesus said: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  (John 13:34-35)

All: But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.  (1 Corinthians 12:31)

Pastor: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

All: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.  (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Build My Life

Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You
Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

Scripture Reading

1 John 4:11-19 (NIV) - Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

This Week's Family Resources

Message

Galatians 5:6 (NIV) - The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

Ephesians 5:2 - Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ who loved you and gave himself to God as a sacrifice to take away your sins.

1 John 4:7-10 (TLB) - Dear friends, let us practice loving each other, for love comes from God and those who are loving and kind show that they are the children of God, and that they are getting to know him better. But if a person isn’t loving and kind, it shows that he doesn’t know God—for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his only Son into this wicked world to bring to us eternal life through his death. In this act we see what real love is: it is not our love for God but his love for us when he sent his Son to satisfy God’s anger against our sins.

1 John 4:11-14 (TLB) - Dear friends, since God loved us as much as that, we surely ought to love each other too. For though we have never yet seen God, when we love each other God lives in us, and his love within us grows ever stronger. And he has put his own Holy Spirit into our hearts as a proof to us that we are living with him and he with us. And furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now tell all the world that God sent his Son to be their Savior.

LIVING A LIFE OF LOVE = LIVING LIKE JESUS

LIVING A LIFE OF LOVE = LIVING LIKE JESUS = LIVING LIKE A LITTLE CHILD

St. Peter’s Mission Statement: Meeting families at the intersection of faith and real life.

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: Scripture tells us: We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. (1 John 4:19-21)

All: Lord, I confess that my home is not always a place of love. Since God loved us, we also ought to love one another. But I haven't. Forgive me. Change me. Fill me with Christ's love.

Pastor: God loved you first! His love is unconditional. He loves you and me even when we are most unlovable. He proved that love by giving His life upon the cross as a willing sacrifice and a full payment for our sins that should have resulted in our eternal death. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
(1 John 4:10)

Prayer for Love

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Submit Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Ephesians 5:1-2 (TLB) - Follow God’s example in everything you do just as a much loved child imitates his father.  Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ who loved you and gave himself to God as a sacrifice to take away your sins.

Here Comes Heaven

Children weep no more
Hope is on the horizon
Weary world behold
Your promised Messiah

Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes heaven

Sinner wait no more
Love has broken the silence
Come let us adore
The Savior is with us

Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes heaven
Here comes heaven

Now behold His glory
Glory in the highest
All the earth rejoice for Christ is born

Over all who mourn
Breaks the dawn of salvation
Darkness reigns no more
For Jesus is greater
He is greater

Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes heaven
Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
All creation worship Him
Here comes heaven
Here comes heaven
