The Weekly Prayer Project - Run to God

Welcome!

Today we will hear about a man who had some pretty bad things happen despite his strong relationship with his Heavenly Father. Pay attention to his attitude and how he deals with those bad things. Instead of blaming God and running away from God, discover how to run to God.

Thanks for joining us! We’re so glad you’re with us today. If you’re new here and want to find out a bit more about our service, have questions, or want to connect, click the button below.

Run to God

Pastor: I run to You, God;
All: I run for dear life. Don’t let me down!
Psalm 31:1

Pastor: God, You’re my refuge.
All: I trust in You and I’m safe!
Psalm 91:1-2

Pastor: God’s huge outstretched arms protect you.
All: Under them I’m perfectly safe.
Psalm 91:4

Pastor:  Jesus invites us: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens,
All: and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

Pastor: The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking;
All: He rescues those who are humbly sorry for their sins.
Psalm 34:18

Pastor: Jesus assures us: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble.
All: But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

King of My Heart

Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh He is my song

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

Let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh He is my song

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

Scripture Reading

Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV) - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message

Why does God let bad things happen to us?

Do you think what Satan said is true?

How would you feel if all those things happened to you?

Job 1:21 (NLT) - "I came naked from my mother's womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!"

What does blameless mean?

Job 2:10 (NLT) - “You talk like a godless woman.  Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.”

Was God punishing Job?

Job 10:1-2 (NLT) - "I am disgusted with my life. Let me complain freely. My bitter soul must complain. I will say to God, 'Don't simply condemn me— tell me the charge you are bringing against me.”

Job 40:1-5 (NLT) - Then the LORD said to Job, "Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God's critic, but do you have the answers?" Then Job replied to the LORD, "I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand. I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say."

God can always make things better, can’t He?

Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Psalm 34:4 (NIV) I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.

Trust In God

Blessed assurance
Jesus is mine
He's been my fourth man in the fire
Time after time
Born of His Spirit
Washed in His blood
And what He did for me on Calvary
Is more than enough

I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail

Perfect submission
All is at rest
I know the author of tomorrow
Has ordered my steps
So this is my story
And this is my song
I’m praising my risen King and Savior
All the day long

I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail

I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That’s why I trust Him
That’s why I trust Him

I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That’s why I trust Him
That’s why

I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
