The Weekly Prayer Project - Supernatural Comfort

Welcome!

Could you use some comfort? The Comforter is ready to steady you, strengthen you, and surround you with a peace that surpasses understanding. The Holy Spirit brings supernatural comfort when it is needed most.

Supernatural Comfort

Pastor: Holy God, Almighty Father, from You proceeds the Spirit, sent by the Son to be our Comforter, bringing to our remembrance all that Jesus said and taught. Open our ears and our hearts to the living voice of Jesus in the Word of God, and grant that we may always be enlightened and helped by the same Holy Spirit; who lives and reigns with the Father and the Son, one God, now and forever.
All: Amen.

Kyrie

Pastor: In peace, let us pray in the fellowship of the Spirit.
All: Lord, have mercy.

Pastor: For the peace from above and for our salvation, let us pray for the blessing of the Spirit.
All: Lord, have mercy.

Pastor: For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray as we are united by the Spirit.
All: Lord, have mercy.

Pastor: For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray as we rejoice in the Spirit.
All: Lord, have mercy.

Pastor: Help, save, comfort, and defend us, O Holy Spirit, for You live and reign with the Father and the Son, one God, now and forever.
All: Amen.

Spirit of the Living God

Spirit of the living God
Spirit of the living God
We only want to hear Your voice
We're hanging on every word
Spirit of the living God
Spirit of the living God
We want to know You more and more
We're hanging on every word

'Cause when You speak
And when You move
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see
And what we seek
When You come in the room
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see
And what we seek

You're changing everything

Spirit of the living God
Spirit of the living God
We're leaning in to all You are
Everything else can wait
Spirit of the living God
Spirit of the living God
Come now and breathe
Upon our hearts
Come now and have Your way

'Cause when You speak
And when You move
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see
And what we seek
When You come in the room
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see
And what we seek

You're changing everything

When You move
You move all our fears
When You move
You move us to tears
When You fall
We fall on our knees
When You fall
We fall at Your feet

'Cause when You speak
And when You move
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see
And what we seek
When You come in the room
When You do what only You can do
It changes us
It changes what we see
And what we seek

You're changing everything

Scripture Reading

John 14:25-27 - “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Nicene Creed

All: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Message

Do you need comfort in your losses?
Do you need comfort in your loneliness?
Do you need comfort in your fear?
Do you need comfort in your uncertainty?
Do you need comfort in your weariness?
Do you need comfort for your shame or regret?

John 14:16 - “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforter, and He will never leave you.”

O Holy Spirit Enter In

O Holy Spirit enter in
And in our hearts your work begin
And make our hearts Your dwelling
Sun of the soul O Light divine
Around and in us brightly shine
To joy and gladness wake us
That we may be truly living
To You giving prayer unceasing
And in love be still increasing

Give to Your Word impressive power
That in our hearts from this good hour
As fire it may be glowing
That in true Christian unity
We faithful witnesses may be
Your glory ever showing
Hear us cheer us by Your teaching
Let our preaching and our labor
Praise You Lord and
Serve our neighbor

O Mighty Rock O Source of life
Let Your dear Word
In doubt and strife
In us be strongly burning
That we be faithful unto death
And live in love and holy faith
From You true wisdom learning
Your grace and peace on us shower
By Your power Christ confessing
Let us see our Saviors blessing

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: When the Spirit comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. (John 16:8)

Pastor: Let us confess our sins before God, the Holy Trinity.

All: Holy God, we acknowledge our sin before You. Specifically, Lord, in the silence of our hearts we confess these specific sins:

(silent confession)

All: For these and all our sins we deserve nothing but punishment. Yet, for the sake of the holy precious blood and innocent suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us; forgive us our sins; and lead us to walk in the way of holiness by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor: God has heard your confession and has had mercy on you for Jesus' sake. God loves you so much that He has given His Son to die for you and in Christ grants you full forgiveness and everlasting life. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.  For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

1 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV) - Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.

Holy Spirit

There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare

Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord

There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord

I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
