The Weekly Prayer Project - Return and Rest
Welcome!
Tired? Always feeling like you should be doing more? That's the message of our culture: do more, achieve more, become more.
But God's message is different: Return and rest.
Take a moment for God to remind you that you don't have to carry the world on your shoulders. He is your Provider. He is your Protector. He is your Savior. And because Jesus has already accomplished everything necessary for your salvation, you can stop striving to earn God's love.
Stop always being exhausted trying to prove you're enough. Return to God and find the freedom of rest.

Invocation
Return and Rest
Pastor: God speaks this invitation through the Prophet Isaiah:
All: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But, you would have none of it.” (Isaiah 30:15)
Pastor: That does not change His desire to show you His love: “God’s not finished. He’s waiting to show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for Him!” (Isaiah 30:18)
All: Let us become more aware of Your presence. Let us experience the glory of Your goodness.
Holy Spirit
There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord
I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord
Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord
There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord
I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord
Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 30:8-9,15,18-21 (NLT) - Now go and write down these words. Write them in a book. They will stand until the end of time as a witness that these people are stubborn rebels who refuse to pay attention to the Lord’s instructions… This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.” So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.
O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He will be gracious if you ask for help. He will surely respond to the sound of your cries. Though the Lord gave you adversity for food and suffering for drink, he will still be with you to teach you. You will see your teacher with your own eyes. Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.
STP KIDS Dismissal
STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!
Message
Isaiah 30:15 (NLT) - This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.
How is your rest?

Praise To The Lord
Praise to the Lord the Almighty
The King of creation
O my soul praise Him
For He is your health and salvation
Let all who hear
Now to His temple draw near
Joining in glad adoration
Praise to the Lord
Who has fearfully wondrously made you
Health has bestowed
And when heedlessly falling has stayed you
What need or grief
Ever has failed of relief
Wings of His mercy did shade you
Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty
Holy holy holy
Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee
Holy holy holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three Persons
Blessed Trinity
Holy holy holy
Lord God Almighty
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name
In earth and sky and sea
Holy holy holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three Persons
Blessed Trinity
Confession of Sins and Forgiveness
Silent time for personal confession
Pastor: The Sabbath is God's weekly invitation to return and rest:
All: We rest in His promises.
We rest in His provision.
We rest in His mercy.
We rest in His finished work.
Pastor: Every Sabbath points us to an even greater rest found in Christ. We no longer strive to earn God's acceptance. Jesus has accomplished what we never could. Our salvation is secure. Our relationship with God is established by grace. The beautiful truth is that God is not standing at a distance waiting for us to earn His favor. The God who commands rest is the God who gives grace. He invites us to return not because He wants to condemn us, but because He wants to bless us.
All: This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15 (NLT))
Words of Institution / Communion Distribution
Holy Communion is offered to those who have been instructed in the Christian faith as confessed by the Lutheran Church. We believe that:
1) Jesus Christ is our only Lord and Savior from all sin, death, and the power of the devil;
2) the Risen Christ is really present in the Sacrament and that with the bread and wine we receive is His true Body and Blood; and
3) we resolve to dedicate our lives to the service of our Lord in His Body, the Church, by regular group worship, sacrificial giving, and thankful living.
If you have any questions please consult with the pastor.
Approach the altar on your own. Gluten-free hosts are available by requesting one from the communion server. Grape juice is located in the center ring of cups.
The Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Blessing
Hebrews 4:9-10 (NIV) - There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their work, just as God did from His.
The Way
Through every battle
Through every heartbreak
Through every circumstance
I believe that You are my fortress
You are my portion
You are my hiding place
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe
Through every blessing
Through every promise
Through every breath I take
I believe that You are provider
You are protector
You are the One I love
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
It's a new horizon
And I'm set on You
And You meet me here today
With mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can't stay long
When I'm here with You
It's a new horizon
And I'm set on You
And You meet me here today
With mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can't stay long
When I believe you are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
It's a new horizon
And I'm set on You
And You meet me here today
With mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can't stay long
When I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
