The Weekly Prayer Project - Promise Keeper

Welcome!

We've all experienced broken promises. God's promises are different. But why does God make us wait?

Today we explore why God's timing may test our faith, yet His faithfulness never fails.

Greeting and Announcements

Invocation

Promise Keeper

Pastor: The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness.
All: Instead, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Pastor: Does God speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?
All: No. What God promises, He fulfills. (Numbers 23:19)

Pastor: The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.
All: We trust in the Lord, for His steadfast love endures forever. (Psalm 145:13)

Pastor: All the promises of God find their "Yes" in Jesus Christ.
All: Through Christ, God has kept His greatest promise and secured our salvation. (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Pastor: God demonstrated His own love for us in this:
All: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Pastor: In Holy Baptism, God joins us to Christ's death and resurrection. (Romans 6:3-4)
All: In Baptism, God claims us as His children and clothes us with Christ. (Galatians 3:27)

Pastor: The Lord remembers His covenant forever, the promise He made for a thousand generations.
All: His faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 105:8)

Baptism

Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Do It Again

Walking around these walls
I thought by now they'd fall
But you have never failed me yet
Waiting for change to come
Knowing the battle's won
For you have never failed me yet

Your promise still stands
Great is your faithfulness
Faithfulness
I'm still in your hands
This is my confidence
You've never failed me yet

I know the night won't last
Your word will come to pass
My heart will sing your praise again
Jesus you're still enough
Keep me within your love
My heart will sing your praise again

Your promise still stands
Great is your faithfulness
Faithfulness
I'm still in your hands
This is my confidence
You've never failed
Your promise still stands
Great is your faithfulness
Faithfulness
I'm still in your hands
This is my confidence
You've never failed me yet

I've seen you move
You move the mountains
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
You made a way
Where there was no way
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
I've seen you move
You move the mountains
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
You made a way
Where there was no way
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
I've seen you move
You move the mountains
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
You made a way
Where there was no way
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
I'll see you do it again

You've never failed me yet
I never will forget
You've never failed me yet
I never will forget

Scripture Reading

2 Peter 3:1-9 (NIV) - Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.

Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message

2 Peter 3:9 (NIV) - The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

1. God's promise is certain
2. God's slowness reveals His heart
3. God's people pray while they wait

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team. Speak with Pastor Mark if you desire personal prayer.

My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
No merit of my own I claim
But wholly lean on Jesus name

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

His oath His covenant and blood
Support me in the raging flood
When every earthly prop gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Clothed in His righteousness alone
Redeemed to stand before the throne

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Hebrews 10:23 (NLT) - Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.

Trust In God

Blessed assurance
Jesus is mine
He's been my fourth man in the fire
Time after time
Born of His Spirit
Washed in His blood
And what He did for me on Calvary
Is more than enough

I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail

Perfect submission
All is at rest
I know the author of tomorrow
Has ordered my steps
So this is my story
And this is my song
I’m praising my risen King and Savior
All the day long

I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail

I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That’s why I trust Him
That’s why I trust Him

I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That’s why I trust Him
That’s why

I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
My Savior the One
Who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God
